    Description

Peptac Liquid Peppermint Flavour Antacid – 500ml

Peptac Liquid Peppermint Flavour is an antacid suspension used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, and the discomfort caused by acid reflux. It is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over, and comes in a pleasant peppermint flavour.

    How It Works

Peptac Liquid works in two ways. The sodium alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel-like raft that sits on top of the stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from rising back up into the oesophagus (food pipe). The sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate act as antacids, neutralising excess stomach acid to provide quick relief from burning and discomfort.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 and over: take 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Shake the bottle well before use. Do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each 10 ml dose contains:
    • Sodium alginate 500 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate 267 mg
    • Calcium carbonate 160 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Peptac Liquid is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience:
    • Bloating or wind
    • Nausea
    • Changes in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhoea)
    • Allergic reactions (rare) such as skin rash or itching

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take Peptac Liquid if:
    • You are allergic to any of the ingredients
    • You have been told to follow a low-sodium (low-salt) diet
    • You have severely reduced kidney function
    • You are under 12 years of age
    • You have high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia)

    Interactions

Peptac Liquid may affect the absorption of certain medicines. It may reduce the effectiveness of some antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones), bisphosphonates, and some heart or thyroid medicines if taken at the same time. It is generally advisable to take other medicines at least 2 hours before or after taking Peptac Liquid. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Peptac Liquid contains sodium, which should be used with caution during pregnancy, particularly if you have been advised to restrict your salt intake. The alginate component is generally considered low risk, but it is important to seek guidance before using any medicine during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between Peptac Liquid and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and worsen acid reflux symptoms, so it is advisable to limit alcohol consumption whilst experiencing heartburn or indigestion.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Peptac Liquid does not cause drowsiness and is not known to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can drive as normal whilst taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Once opened, use within the period stated on the label. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
