    Description

Peptac Liquid Aniseed Flavour Antacid – 500ml

Peptac Liquid Aniseed Flavour is an antacid medicine used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. It works quickly to soothe the discomfort caused by excess stomach acid, including that uncomfortable burning sensation in your chest and throat.

    How It Works

Peptac Liquid contains sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate. When you swallow it, these ingredients react with stomach acid to form a gel-like raft that sits on top of the stomach contents, acting as a physical barrier to help prevent acid from rising back up into the oesophagus (food pipe). The antacid components also help to neutralise excess stomach acid directly, providing fast relief from symptoms.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons) four times a day after meals and at bedtime. The liquid should ideally be taken after meals and at bedtime. Children under 12 years should not take this medicine unless advised by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each 10 ml dose contains:
    • Sodium alginate 500 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate 267 mg
    • Calcium carbonate 160 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Peptac Liquid is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience:
    • Bloating or wind (flatulence)
    • Nausea
    • Stomach discomfort
    • People on a sodium-restricted diet should be aware that this product contains sodium, which may cause fluid retention in susceptible individuals

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take Peptac Liquid if any of the following apply to you:
    • You are allergic to any of the ingredients
    • You are under 12 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)
    • You are on a strict low-sodium (low-salt) diet, as this product has a significant sodium content
    • You have been advised to avoid calcium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate by your doctor
    • You have phenylketonuria (PKU) — check the patient information leaflet for excipient details

    Interactions

Antacids can affect the absorption of other medicines if taken at the same time. It is generally recommended to leave at least 2 hours between taking Peptac Liquid and other medications, including antibiotics (such as tetracyclines), thyroid medicines (levothyroxine), and iron supplements. The high sodium content may interact with medicines used to treat heart conditions or high blood pressure. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Peptac Liquid contains sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate, which are generally considered low risk in pregnancy when used as directed. However, due to its sodium content, caution is advised, particularly in later pregnancy or if you have been advised to limit salt intake. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between Peptac Liquid and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and worsen symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux, so it is advisable to limit alcohol consumption if you are suffering from these conditions.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Peptac Liquid does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can carry on with normal activities as usual after taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Once opened, use within the period stated on the bottle. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
