    Description

    Paracetamol 250mg Suppositories: 10 Pack

Paracetamol 250mg Suppositories are a rectal medicine used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever in children aged 6 to 12 years. They are a practical alternative to oral medicines for children who have difficulty swallowing tablets or liquids.

    How It Works

Paracetamol works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body called prostaglandins, which are responsible for sending pain signals and raising body temperature. When absorbed through the rectal lining, it helps to reduce fever and ease discomfort such as headaches, toothache, and general aches and pains.

    Directions for Use

For children aged 6 to 12 years: one suppository (250mg) inserted rectally, up to four times in 24 hours. Leave at least 4 hours between doses. Do not give more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period. Do not use for more than 3 days without seeking medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Paracetamol 250mg per suppository

    Possible Side Effects

Paracetamol suppositories are generally well tolerated, but side effects can occasionally occur:
    • Skin rash or allergic reaction
    • Local irritation or discomfort at the site of insertion
    • Abnormal liver function (with long-term or excessive use)
    • Low blood platelet count (rare)
    • Serious skin reactions such as redness or blistering (very rare)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 6 years of age
    • Children who are allergic to paracetamol or any other ingredient in the suppository
    • Children with severe liver or kidney disease
    • Children with rectal inflammation or haemorrhoids (seek advice first)
    • Children already taking other medicines containing paracetamol

    Interactions

Paracetamol can interact with certain medicines, including blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin, some epilepsy medicines, and medicines used to treat tuberculosis (TB). Using more than one product containing paracetamol at the same time can increase the risk of overdose. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

This product is intended for use in children aged 6 to 12 years and is not indicated for use by adults, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

This product is formulated for children and alcohol consumption is not applicable. If a parent or carer regularly drinks alcohol and is also taking paracetamol themselves, they should be aware that combining alcohol with paracetamol can increase the risk of liver damage.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Paracetamol suppositories are not known to cause drowsiness or affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. This product is intended for children, so driving considerations apply to the adult carer rather than the patient.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze, as this may affect the consistency of the suppositories. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
