    Description

    Orlos 60mg – 84 Capsules

Orlos 60mg capsules contain orlistat, a weight loss medicine available without a prescription for adults with a BMI of 28 or above. When used alongside a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and regular exercise, Orlos can help you lose weight and keep it off.

    How It Works

Orlos contains orlistat, which works by blocking some of the fat-digesting enzymes in your gut. This means that around one-third of the fat you eat is not absorbed into your body and instead passes out naturally in your stools. This reduction in absorbed calories helps support gradual, sustained weight loss.

    Directions for Use

Adults aged 18 and over should take one 60mg capsule three times a day, with each main meal that contains fat — or up to one hour after eating. Swallow the capsule whole with water. If you miss a meal, or your meal contains no fat, skip that dose. Do not take more than three capsules per day. Orlos is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Orlistat 60mg per capsule

    Possible Side Effects

Side effects are often related to the fat you eat passing through your digestive system and are more noticeable if you eat high-fat meals. They typically improve as you stick to a low-fat diet.
    • Oily or fatty stools
    • Oily discharge or spotting on underwear
    • Urgent or more frequent need to open your bowels
    • Wind (flatulence), sometimes with an oily discharge
    • Stomach pain or discomfort
    • Soft or liquid stools
    • Headache

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with a BMI below 28
    • Children and young people under 18 years of age
    • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
    • Anyone with chronic malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis (a liver/bile condition)
    • People who are allergic to orlistat or any other ingredient in this product
    • Anyone already taking prescription orlistat 120mg (e.g. Xenical)

    Interactions

Orlistat may reduce the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), so a daily multivitamin taken at bedtime is recommended. Importantly, orlistat can reduce the effectiveness of ciclosporin (an immunosuppressant) and may affect the absorption of amiodarone, anticoagulants such as warfarin, antiretroviral medicines used for HIV, and thyroid medicines such as levothyroxine. It may also interact with acarbose (a diabetes medicine) and medicines used to treat epilepsy. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Orlos must not be taken during pregnancy, as weight loss is not appropriate and the effects of orlistat on the unborn baby are not fully known. Orlos should also not be taken while breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether orlistat passes into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between orlistat and alcohol. However, alcoholic drinks can be high in calories and may undermine your weight loss efforts, so it is advisable to limit alcohol consumption while taking Orlos as part of a calorie-controlled diet.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Orlos is not known to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience any unexpected side effects that affect your concentration or alertness, do not drive and seek advice from your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in the original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
