    Description

    Oilatum Cream – 500ml

Oilatum Cream is a moisturising emollient used to soothe and relieve dry, itchy, and sensitive skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and ichthyosis. It is suitable for adults and children, including babies, and can be used on the face and body.

    How It Works

Oilatum Cream contains two emollient ingredients — light liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin — that work together to form a protective, water-repelling layer over the surface of the skin. This layer helps to lock in the skin’s natural moisture and prevent water loss, keeping skin soft, supple, and comfortable. Regular use helps to restore the skin’s natural barrier function.

    Directions for Use

Apply Oilatum Cream gently to the affected areas of skin as often as needed, or as directed by your doctor. Smooth the cream into the skin in the direction of hair growth to reduce the risk of blocking hair follicles. It can be used as a soap substitute during washing. It is suitable for use at any age, including in babies and young children, but follow your doctor’s guidance for specific conditions. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Light liquid paraffin 6% w/w
    • White soft paraffin 15% w/w

    Possible Side Effects

Oilatum Cream is generally very well tolerated. Possible side effects may include:
    • Skin irritation or redness at the site of application
    • A temporary stinging or burning sensation, particularly on broken or inflamed skin
    • Skin rash or allergic reaction (rare)
    • Blocked hair follicles (folliculitis) if the cream is not applied in the direction of hair growth

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are known to be allergic to light liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, or any other ingredient in the cream
    • Do not apply to open wounds, infected skin, or broken skin unless advised by a doctor
    • Avoid contact with the eyes

    Interactions

Oilatum Cream is applied to the skin and is not known to interact with other medicines in the way that oral medications can. However, paraffin-based emollients can make dressings, clothing, and bedding highly flammable — keep away from naked flames and do not smoke while using this product. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Oilatum Cream is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding, as it is applied topically to the skin and is not absorbed into the body in significant amounts. However, avoid applying the cream to the nipple area if breastfeeding, to prevent the baby from ingesting it. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Oilatum Cream and alcohol. This product is applied externally to the skin, so alcohol consumption does not affect how it works.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Oilatum Cream does not cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It is safe to drive or use machinery after applying this product.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
