    Description

    Movicol Liquid Orange – 500ml

Movicol Liquid Orange is a laxative medicine used to relieve constipation in adults and children aged 12 and over. It comes in a convenient ready-to-drink orange-flavoured liquid, making it an easy alternative to sachets.

    How It Works

Movicol Liquid Orange contains macrogol 3350 (polyethylene glycol), which is an osmotic laxative. It works by drawing water into the bowel, which softens the stool and makes it easier to pass. Unlike some other laxatives, it works gently and does not cause the bowel to contract forcefully.

    Directions for Use

For adults and children aged 12 and over, the usual dose for constipation is 25 ml (equivalent to one sachet dose) taken once or twice daily. The liquid can be taken directly or mixed with a cold drink if preferred. Treatment should generally not exceed 2 weeks without medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each 25 ml dose contains:
    • Macrogol 3350 – 13.125 g
    • Sodium chloride – 175.4 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate – 89.3 mg
    • Potassium chloride – 46.6 mg

    Possible Side Effects

    • Bloating or a feeling of fullness
    • Stomach cramps or abdominal discomfort
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhoea
    • Flatulence (wind)
    • Vomiting (less common)
    • Allergic reactions such as skin rash (rare)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with a known allergy to macrogol (polyethylene glycol) or any other ingredient in this product
    • People with a bowel obstruction, perforation, or paralytic ileus
    • People with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon
    • Children under 12 years of age (a different Movicol formulation is available for younger children)
    • People who have been told by a doctor not to take osmotic laxatives

    Interactions

Movicol Liquid Orange may affect the absorption of some medicines taken at the same time, as it increases the volume of water in the bowel. It is advisable to take other medicines at a different time to Movicol where possible. There are no significant known interactions with food. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Macrogol is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, which means the risk to an unborn baby or nursing infant is considered low. However, as with all medicines, caution is advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Movicol Liquid Orange and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation, so it is sensible to drink plenty of water and keep alcohol intake moderate.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Movicol Liquid Orange does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can continue normal activities while taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Once opened, use within 4 weeks. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
