Description
Imodium Instant Melts – 18 Orodispersible Tablets
Imodium Instant Melts are orodispersible tablets that dissolve quickly on the tongue without the need for water. They contain loperamide hydrochloride and are used to relieve acute (short-term) diarrhoea, as well as diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) in adults.
⸻
How It Works
Loperamide hydrochloride works by slowing down the movement of the bowel, giving it more time to absorb water and salts from the gut. This helps to firm up stools and reduce how often you need to go to the toilet, providing faster relief from diarrhoea symptoms.
⸻
Directions for Use
Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve — no water is needed. For acute diarrhoea (adults and children aged 12 and over): Take 2 tablets (4 mg) initially, then 1 tablet (2 mg) after each loose stool. Do not exceed 8 tablets (16 mg) in 24 hours. Do not use for more than 48 hours without seeking medical advice. For IBS-related diarrhoea (adults aged 18 and over): Take 1 tablet (2 mg) initially, then 1 tablet after each loose stool, up to a maximum of 4 tablets (8 mg) per day. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

⸻
Interactions
Loperamide may interact with medicines that affect heart rhythm, such as certain antibiotics (e.g. quinidine or ritonavir), which may increase the level of loperamide in the blood. Some medicines used to treat HIV, fungal infections, or heart conditions may also interact with loperamide. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of loperamide during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is not recommended for use in the first trimester. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so use during breastfeeding is generally not advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no direct interaction between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol can worsen digestive symptoms including diarrhoea. It is advisable to avoid alcohol whilst experiencing diarrhoea to support recovery and prevent further dehydration.
⸻

Imodium Instant Melts may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking this medicine, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until these effects have passed.
