Description
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel 50g
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel is a clear, odourless topical gel containing ibuprofen, a well-known anti-inflammatory painkiller. It is used to relieve back pain, rheumatic discomfort, muscular aches, pains and swellings, including sprains, strains, and sports injuries.
⸻
How It Works
Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). When applied to the skin, it is absorbed into the underlying tissue where it reduces the production of prostaglandins — natural chemicals that cause pain, swelling, and inflammation — providing targeted relief at the site of discomfort.
⸻
Directions for Use
For adults and children aged 14 years and over, apply a small amount of gel (approximately 4–10 cm of gel depending on the area) to the affected area up to 3 times a day. Gently massage the gel into the skin until it has been absorbed. Do not use for more than 10 days without seeking medical advice. Wash your hands after each application and avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Ibuprofen 5% w/w (50 mg per gram of gel)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin redness or irritation at the application site
• Rash or itching at the application site
• Dry or flaking skin
• Rarely, an allergic skin reaction such as hives or blistering
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
• People who have previously had an allergic reaction to any of the other ingredients in the gel
• Children under 14 years of age
• People with broken, damaged, infected, or eczematous skin at the application site
• People in the third trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks or more)
⸻
Interactions
Although Ibuleve is applied to the skin, some ibuprofen may be absorbed into the bloodstream, so interactions with other medicines are possible. Caution is advised if you are already taking oral NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen tablets) or anticoagulants (such as warfarin). Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Ibuleve gel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks onwards). Use during the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless advised by a doctor, as topical NSAIDs may carry some risk. The gel should be used with caution if breastfeeding and should not be applied to the breast or chest area. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel and alcohol when used as directed. As this medicine is applied topically rather than taken orally, the usual concerns about alcohol and oral NSAIDs (such as increased risk of stomach bleeding) are less relevant, though it is always advisable to drink alcohol in moderation.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel is a topical treatment and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unexpected effects after use, exercise caution and seek advice if needed.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep the cap tightly closed after use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
