Description
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel 100g
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel is a clear, odourless topical gel containing ibuprofen, a well-known anti-inflammatory painkiller. It is used to relieve back pain, muscular aches, rheumatic discomfort, sprains, strains, and sports injuries when applied directly to the skin.
⸻
How It Works
Ibuleve gel contains ibuprofen, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). When rubbed into the skin over the painful area, ibuprofen is absorbed locally to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain at the site of discomfort, with minimal absorption into the bloodstream compared to ibuprofen tablets.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Apply 50–125 mg of gel (approximately a 4–10 cm strip) to the affected area up to 3 times a day. Gently massage the gel into the skin until absorbed. Wash your hands after use and avoid applying to broken, damaged, or infected skin. Do not use for more than 2 weeks without seeking medical advice. Ibuleve gel is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Ibuprofen 5% w/w (50 mg per gram of gel)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin redness or rash at the application site
• Mild itching or burning sensation on the skin
• Skin dryness or flaking where the gel is applied
• Allergic skin reactions (uncommon)
• In rare cases, symptoms of a systemic allergic reaction such as wheezing or swelling
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
• People who have previously experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Children under 12 years of age
• People with broken, infected, or damaged skin at the application site
• Women in the third trimester (last 3 months) of pregnancy
• People with a known allergy to any other ingredient in the gel
⸻
Interactions
Because Ibuleve gel is applied to the skin, the risk of interactions with other medicines is lower than with oral ibuprofen. However, caution is advised if you are also using other ibuprofen or NSAID-containing products, as this may increase the total amount of ibuprofen absorbed. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Ibuleve gel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy as ibuprofen may harm the unborn baby. During the first and second trimesters, it should only be used if considered essential, and for as short a time as possible. It is not recommended during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Ibuleve gel and alcohol when used as directed. As this product is applied to the skin rather than taken by mouth, alcohol does not affect how it works. However, if you have any concerns, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Ibuleve Pain Relief 5% Gel is applied topically to the skin and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It does not cause drowsiness or impair alertness when used as directed.
