Gaviscon Double Action Chewable Tablets are used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, and the discomfort caused by gastric reflux, including during pregnancy. This pack contains 12 mint-flavoured chewable tablets presented as two blister strips of 6 tablets each.

How It Works

Gaviscon Double Action works in two ways. The sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate form a thick, foam-like raft on top of the stomach contents, which physically prevents acid from rising back up into the oesophagus (food pipe). At the same time, calcium carbonate acts as an antacid to quickly neutralise excess stomach acid, providing fast relief from pain and discomfort.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: chew 2 to 4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Do not exceed 16 tablets in any 24-hour period. This product is not recommended for children under 12 years of age unless advised by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

Possible Side Effects

Gaviscon Double Action is generally well tolerated. Side effects are uncommon but may include:
• Bloating or wind
• Nausea
• Allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, or swelling) — rare
• Changes in bowel habit in some individuals

Who Should Not Use This Product

• People who are allergic to sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate, or any other ingredient in this product
• People who have been told to follow a low-sodium (low-salt) or low-calcium diet
• People with hypercalcaemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine)
• People with kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) or severe kidney problems — seek medical advice first
• Children under 12 years of age, unless directed by a doctor

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
