Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Mixed Berries is an antacid and alginate medicine used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. It is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over.

How It Works

Gaviscon Double Action works in two ways. The alginate ingredient (sodium alginate) reacts with stomach acid to form a thick, gel-like raft that sits on top of the stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from rising up into the oesophagus. At the same time, the antacid ingredient (sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate) neutralises excess stomach acid, providing quick relief from the burning sensation associated with heartburn and indigestion.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Do not exceed 80 ml (16 teaspoons) in 24 hours. The liquid should be taken after meals and at bedtime. This product is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

Active Ingredients

Per 10 ml dose:
• Sodium alginate 250 mg
• Sodium bicarbonate 133.5 mg
• Calcium carbonate 160 mg

Possible Side Effects

Gaviscon Double Action is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects may include:
• Allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, or swelling)
• Bloating or flatulence
• Nausea
• Constipation or diarrhoea (uncommon)

Who Should Not Use This Product

Do not use this product if:
• You are allergic to any of the ingredients
• You have been told to follow a low-sodium (low-salt) diet, as this product contains sodium
• You have hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels in the blood) or hypercalciuria (high calcium levels in the urine)
• You have kidney stones (nephrolithiasis)
• You are under 12 years of age
• Speak to your PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines, particularly antibiotics or medicines for osteoporosis or heart conditions

Storage

Store below 30°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Once opened, use within 28 days. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
