Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Aniseed is an antacid and alginate-containing medicine used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux, including the discomfort caused by stomach acid rising into the oesophagus (gullet).

How It Works

Gaviscon Double Action works in two ways: the alginate (sodium alginate) forms a soothing barrier — called a raft — that floats on top of the stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from rising up into the oesophagus. At the same time, the antacid component (sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate) quickly neutralises excess stomach acid to provide fast relief from discomfort.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Do not exceed 80 ml (16 teaspoons) in 24 hours. Gaviscon Double Action is not recommended for children under 12 years unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

Possible Side Effects

Gaviscon Double Action is generally well tolerated, but possible side effects may include:
• Bloating or wind
• Nausea
• Hypersensitivity or allergic reactions (rare)
• Changes in bowel habits (e.g. constipation or diarrhoea) — rare

Who Should Not Use This Product

• People who are allergic to any of the ingredients
• People on a medically supervised low-sodium diet (this product contains sodium)
• People with severely reduced kidney function, unless advised by a doctor
• Children under 12 years of age, unless directed by a doctor

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. After opening, use within 28 days. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
