Gaviscon Double Action Chewable Tablets are an antacid and alginate medicine used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. They provide fast, soothing relief by targeting excess stomach acid and preventing it from rising back up into the throat.

How It Works
This medicine works in two ways. The antacid ingredients (sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate) neutralise excess stomach acid quickly to relieve discomfort. At the same time, sodium alginate forms a thick, protective raft that floats on top of the stomach contents, acting as a physical barrier to stop acid from travelling up into the oesophagus (food pipe).

Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: chew 2 to 4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Do not exceed 16 tablets in 24 hours. This product is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

Possible Side Effects
Gaviscon Double Action is generally well tolerated. Known possible side effects include:
• Allergic reactions (e.g. skin rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat)
• Nausea or stomach discomfort
• Increased thirst
• In rare cases, high calcium levels with prolonged high-dose use

Who Should Not Use This Product
• People who are allergic to any of the ingredients
• Children under 12 years of age
• People on a strictly controlled low-sodium or low-calcium diet
• People with severely reduced kidney function (renal impairment)
• People with high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia)
• Speak to your PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are taking other medications, as this product may affect how some medicines are absorbed

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
