    Description

    Daktarin Oral Gel – 15g

Daktarin Oral Gel is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of the mouth and throat, most commonly oral thrush. It contains miconazole, which works against fungi and some bacteria that can cause infection in the mouth.

    How It Works

Miconazole, the active ingredient in Daktarin Oral Gel, works by damaging the outer layer (cell membrane) of fungal cells, stopping them from growing and spreading. This helps to clear the infection and relieve symptoms such as soreness, redness, and white patches in the mouth.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children over 6 years: apply 2.5 ml (half a measuring spoon) of gel to the affected area four times daily after meals. Hold the gel in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing. Children aged 4 months to 6 years should only use this product under medical supervision — speak to a doctor before use in this age group. Continue using the gel for at least 7 days after symptoms have cleared to prevent the infection from returning. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to miconazole or any other ingredient in the gel
    • People with known hypersensitivity to other azole antifungal medicines
    • Infants under 4 months of age
    • People taking certain medicines that interact with miconazole (see Interactions section below)
    • People with impaired liver function

    Interactions

Miconazole can interact with several medicines, including warfarin (a blood thinner), certain statins (e.g. simvastatin), some diabetes medicines (e.g. sulfonylureas), phenytoin (used for epilepsy), and some sedative medicines. These interactions can be clinically significant even at the doses used in oral gel. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Daktarin Oral Gel should be used with caution during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester, and only if considered necessary by a healthcare professional. There is limited information on the use of miconazole oral gel during breastfeeding; as the gel is applied in the mouth and partly swallowed, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between miconazole oral gel and alcohol. However, alcohol may further irritate an already inflamed mouth or throat, so it is sensible to limit alcohol consumption while treating an oral infection.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Daktarin Oral Gel is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. This medicine acts locally in the mouth and throat and does not typically cause drowsiness or impaired alertness.

    Storage

Store Daktarin Oral Gel below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze the gel. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
