Description
Daktarin Intensiv (Ketoconazole) Cream – 15g
Daktarin Intensiv Cream contains ketoconazole, an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal skin infections including athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm, and jock itch. It helps to clear the infection and relieve uncomfortable symptoms such as itching, redness, and scaling.
⸻
How It Works
Ketoconazole belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals. It works by disrupting the outer membrane of fungal cells, which stops the fungi from growing and spreading. This allows the skin to heal and symptoms to improve over time.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and the surrounding skin once daily. Continue treatment for at least 2 to 4 weeks, even if symptoms improve earlier, to help prevent the infection from returning. This cream is for external use on the skin only — avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Ketoconazole 2% w/w
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Mild burning or stinging sensation at the application site
• Skin irritation or redness
• Itching at the site of application
• Allergic skin reactions such as rash or hives (uncommon)
• Contact dermatitis (uncommon)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredient in the cream
• People who are allergic to other azole antifungals
• Children under 12 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)
• Do not apply to broken, raw, or severely inflamed skin without medical advice
⸻
Interactions
When applied to the skin, ketoconazole cream is absorbed into the body in very small amounts, making significant drug interactions unlikely. However, if you are using other topical medicines on the same area of skin, there is a possibility of interaction. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the use of topical ketoconazole during pregnancy. As only very small amounts are absorbed through the skin, the risk is considered to be low, but caution is still advised. If breastfeeding, avoid applying the cream to the breast or nipple area. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between topical ketoconazole cream and alcohol. Drinking alcohol while using this cream is not expected to affect how the medicine works or cause any additional side effects.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Daktarin Intensiv Cream is applied to the skin and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It does not cause drowsiness or impair mental alertness.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
