    CosmoCol Orange – 30 Sachets

CosmoCol Orange is a laxative used to relieve constipation in adults and children aged 12 and over. It can also be used to treat faecal impaction (a severe build-up of stools) under medical guidance.

    How It Works

CosmoCol contains macrogol 3350, which works by drawing water into the bowel from the surrounding tissues. This softens and loosens hard stools, making them easier to pass and helping to restore regular bowel movements.

    Directions for Use

For constipation in adults and children aged 12 and over, the usual dose is 1 to 3 sachets per day, dissolved in water and taken as directed. Each sachet should be dissolved in 125 ml of water and drunk straight away. For faecal impaction, higher doses may be used — follow the guidance of your doctor or healthcare professional. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Macrogol 3350 — 13.125 g per sachet
    • Sodium chloride — 350.7 mg per sachet
    • Sodium bicarbonate — 178.5 mg per sachet
    • Potassium chloride — 46.6 mg per sachet

    Possible Side Effects

    • Bloating or wind
    • Stomach cramps or discomfort
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhoea
    • Headache
    • Allergic reactions (such as skin rash or itching — rare)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with a known allergy to macrogol 3350 or any other ingredient in the product
    • People with bowel obstruction (a blockage in the gut)
    • People with a perforated bowel or at risk of bowel perforation
    • People with severe inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (during an acute flare)
    • People with toxic megacolon
    • Children under 12 years of age (unless advised by a doctor)

    Interactions

CosmoCol may reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time, as it increases the fluid content of the gut. It is advisable to take other medicines at a different time to CosmoCol where possible. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Macrogol 3350 is poorly absorbed from the gut and is generally considered low risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, you should always seek professional advice before starting any new medicine. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There are no known interactions between CosmoCol Orange and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation, so it is sensible to drink plenty of water and limit alcohol intake while treating constipation.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

CosmoCol Orange does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You may continue to drive and carry out normal activities as usual while taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Once dissolved in water, the solution should be used immediately. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
