    Description

Cleen Ready to Use Enema – Sodium Phosphate – 133ml

Cleen Ready to Use Enema is a rectal laxative containing sodium phosphate, used to relieve constipation and to empty the bowel before certain medical procedures, examinations, or surgery.

    How It Works

Sodium phosphate works by drawing water into the bowel from the surrounding tissues. This softens and bulks up the stool, stimulating the bowel to contract and expel its contents, usually producing a bowel movement within 2 to 5 minutes of use.

    Directions for Use

Cleen Enema is for rectal use only — it must not be swallowed. Adults and children aged 12 years and over: use one 133ml enema rectally as a single dose. It should not be used more than once in 24 hours. Children under 12 years should not use this product unless directed by a doctor. To use, lie on your left side with knees bent, gently insert the nozzle into the rectum, and squeeze the bottle steadily to deliver the solution. Try to retain the liquid for a few minutes before releasing. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate 19.2g per 133ml
    • Disodium hydrogen phosphate heptahydrate 7.0g per 133ml

    Possible Side Effects

    • Rectal discomfort, irritation, or a burning sensation
    • Bloating or abdominal cramping
    • Nausea
    • Electrolyte disturbances (particularly with repeated or excessive use)
    • Rectal bleeding (rare)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 12 years of age
    • People with kidney disease or reduced kidney function
    • People with heart failure or significant heart conditions
    • People with colitis, bowel obstruction, or inflammatory bowel disease
    • Those who have had recent bowel surgery
    • People on a low-phosphate diet or with known phosphate abnormalities
    • Anyone with a known allergy to any of the ingredients

    Interactions

Sodium phosphate enemas may interact with medicines that affect kidney function or electrolyte levels, such as diuretics (water tablets), certain blood pressure medicines (ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers), and NSAIDs. Using this enema alongside other laxatives is not recommended without medical advice. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of sodium phosphate enemas during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It is generally recommended to avoid use unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between sodium phosphate enema and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, and as this medicine may also affect fluid and electrolyte balance, it is advisable to stay well hydrated and avoid excessive alcohol consumption around the time of use.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Cleen Enema is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, as the enema works quickly and may cause an urgent need to use the toilet, it is sensible to remain near a toilet for a short period after use.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
