Buscopan Cramps tablets are used to relieve painful stomach cramps and spasms, including those caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), period pain, and other gastrointestinal conditions. Each pack contains 20 tablets for effective, targeted relief.

How It Works

Buscopan Cramps contains hyoscine butylbromide, an antispasmodic medicine that works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the gut and abdomen. By reducing muscle spasms, it helps to relieve the cramping pain associated with conditions such as IBS and period pain, without causing drowsiness.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 2 tablets up to four times a day as needed. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours. Buscopan Cramps is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Possible Side Effects

• Dry mouth
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Blurred vision
• Difficulty passing urine
• Skin reactions such as rash or redness
• Increased heart rate (tachycardia) — rare

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• Children under 12 years of age
• People with a known allergy to hyoscine butylbromide or any other ingredient in the tablets
• People with myasthenia gravis (a muscle-weakening condition)
• People with megacolon (abnormal enlargement of the colon)
• People with narrowing of the stomach or bowel (obstruction)
• People with an enlarged prostate causing difficulty urinating
• People with glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)

Interactions

Buscopan Cramps may interact with other medicines that have anticholinergic effects, such as certain antihistamines, antidepressants, and antipsychotics, potentially increasing side effects such as dry mouth and blurred vision. It may also reduce the effects of medicines used to treat gut motility disorders, such as metoclopramide. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

There is limited evidence on the safety of hyoscine butylbromide during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As a precaution, it is generally recommended to avoid using this medicine unless advised by a healthcare professional. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Alcohol

There is no known significant interaction between Buscopan Cramps and alcohol. However, drinking alcohol may worsen some gastrointestinal symptoms, so it is advisable to drink in moderation whilst experiencing stomach cramps or spasms.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Buscopan Cramps is not expected to cause drowsiness and is generally considered safe for driving and operating machinery. However, in rare cases it may cause blurred vision or dizziness — if affected, do not drive or use machinery until you feel well enough to do so safely.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
