Description
Buccastem M Buccal – 8 Tablets
Buccastem M Buccal tablets are an anti-nausea (anti-emetic) medicine used to relieve feelings of sickness and vomiting associated with migraines. They contain the active ingredient prochlorperazine and are designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth for effective relief.
⸻
How It Works
Prochlorperazine works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, particularly in an area called the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ), which plays a key role in causing nausea and vomiting. By blocking these signals, the medicine helps to reduce the feeling of sickness that often accompanies migraines. Effects can typically be felt within 30 to 60 minutes of taking the tablet.
⸻
Directions for Use
Buccastem M is for adults aged 18 years and over only. Place one tablet high up between the upper lip and the gum and allow it to dissolve slowly — do not chew or swallow it whole. The usual dose is one tablet (3 mg) twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Each tablet takes around 1 to 2 hours to dissolve completely. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Interactions
Buccastem M may interact with a number of other medicines, including sedatives, antidepressants, antihypertensives (blood pressure medicines), antiepileptics, lithium, and medicines that affect heart rhythm (QT-prolonging drugs). It may also enhance the sedative effects of other central nervous system depressants. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Buccastem M is not recommended during pregnancy unless considered essential by your doctor, as prochlorperazine may affect the developing baby, particularly near the time of delivery. Prochlorperazine may pass into breast milk and is not recommended during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Buccastem M, as prochlorperazine can enhance the sedative effects of alcohol. This combination may make you feel significantly more drowsy and could impair your judgement and coordination.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Buccastem M can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, all of which may impair your ability to drive or use machinery safely. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. If you feel affected, avoid these activities.
