    Description

    Brolene Sterile 0.1% Eye Drops – 10ml

Brolene Sterile 0.1% Eye Drops are an over-the-counter antiseptic eye drop used to treat and help prevent minor bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis (red eye) and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids).

    How It Works

The active ingredient, propamidine isetionate, is an antiseptic that works by disrupting the outer membrane of bacteria and some fungi, killing or stopping the growth of the microorganisms causing the infection. This helps to clear the infection and relieve associated symptoms such as redness, discharge, and irritation.

    Directions for Use

For adults and children aged 2 years and over: instil 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) up to four times daily. Wash your hands before and after use, and avoid touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not use for more than 2 days without seeking medical advice if symptoms do not begin to improve. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Propamidine isetionate 0.1% (1 mg per mL)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Temporary stinging or burning sensation immediately after instillation
    • Transient blurred vision after applying the drops
    • Eye irritation or redness
    • Allergic reactions such as itching, swelling, or increased redness (rare)
    • Hypersensitivity reactions to propamidine isetionate (rare)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with a known allergy to propamidine isetionate or any other ingredient in the drops
    • Children under 2 years of age (unless under direct medical supervision)
    • Those wearing soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses — remove lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting
    • People whose eye symptoms are severe, involve vision changes, or are accompanied by eye pain — seek medical advice first

    Interactions

No significant interactions with other medicines have been established for topical propamidine isetionate eye drops when used as directed. However, if you are already using other eye drops or eye preparations, leave at least 5 minutes between instilling each product. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

There is limited data on the use of propamidine isetionate eye drops during pregnancy or breastfeeding. As only small amounts are likely to be absorbed systemically when used as directed, the risk is considered low, but caution is still advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Brolene Sterile 0.1% Eye Drops and alcohol. This medicine is applied topically to the eye and is not taken orally, so alcohol consumption is not expected to affect how the drops work.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Brolene Eye Drops may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after use. You should wait until your vision has fully cleared before driving or operating machinery. This effect is usually short-lived.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Once opened, discard the bottle after 28 days, even if some solution remains. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
