Description
Benadryl Allergy Children’s 1mg/ml Oral Solution – 100ml
Benadryl Allergy Children’s 1mg/ml Oral Solution is a banana-flavoured liquid antihistamine suitable for children aged 2 years and over. It is used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and other allergies such as pet dander, dust mites, and skin reactions like hives (urticaria).
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, cetirizine hydrochloride, is a non-sedating antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine receptors in the body — histamine is the chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms such as sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and a runny nose. By blocking histamine, cetirizine helps to reduce and relieve these uncomfortable symptoms.
⸻
Directions for Use
This oral solution is given by mouth using the measuring syringe provided. The recommended doses are:
• Children aged 2–6 years: 2.5ml (2.5mg) twice daily
• Children aged 6–12 years: 5ml (5mg) twice daily, or 10ml (10mg) once daily
Do not give more than 10ml (10mg) in a 24-hour period. The solution is sugar-free and dye-free. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

• Are allergic to cetirizine hydrochloride, hydroxyzine, or any other ingredient in this product
• Have severe kidney (renal) impairment

⸻
Interactions
Cetirizine is unlikely to interact with most medicines at the recommended dose; however, its sedative effect may be increased if taken alongside other medicines that cause drowsiness, such as sedatives or certain anxiety medications. Theophylline may slightly reduce the elimination of cetirizine from the body. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
This product is intended for children aged 2 years and over and is not indicated for use in adults or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, if a parent or carer is pregnant or breastfeeding and has incidentally handled this medicine, it is not expected to cause harm. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Although cetirizine is considered non-sedating, alcohol may enhance any drowsiness effect. This product is intended for use in children, so alcohol consumption is not relevant to the patient; however, parents and carers should ensure no alcohol is mixed with the solution when administering it to a child.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Cetirizine is classified as a non-sedating antihistamine; however, some children may still experience drowsiness. If your child appears drowsy after taking this medicine, ensure they do not ride a bicycle, use machinery, or engage in activities that require full alertness until the drowsiness has passed.
