How It Works

Silver nitrate is a well-established caustic agent that has been used in medicine for many years. When applied directly to a wart or verruca, it causes a localised chemical reaction that destroys the abnormal skin cells making up the lesion. The treated tissue turns black or dark brown, which is a normal and expected response, indicating that the silver nitrate is working. Over the following days, the dead tissue gradually separates from the healthy surrounding skin, allowing the wart or verruca to be removed. The pen-style applicator provides precise, targeted application, minimising contact with the healthy skin surrounding the affected area.

Directions for Use

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with this product before use. The following is a general guide:

• Soak the wart or verruca in warm water for approximately two to three minutes to soften the skin.
• Carefully dry the area thoroughly with a clean tissue or towel.
• Remove the cap from the applicator pencil and moisten the tip very slightly with water.
• Apply the tip of the pencil gently to the surface of the wart or verruca only. Avoid contact with surrounding healthy skin.
• Allow the treated area to dry for one to two minutes before covering with the adhesive dressing provided.
• Repeat the application once daily for up to three consecutive days.
• After the course of treatment, allow the treated tissue to separate naturally over the following days. Do not forcibly remove it.
• If the wart or verruca has not cleared after three days, a second course of treatment may be applied after a gap of 24 hours. Do not exceed two courses without seeking medical advice.
• Wash hands thoroughly after handling the applicator pencil.

Who Should Not Use This Product

Do not use Avoca Wart and Verruca Treatment Set if any of the following apply to you:

• You are allergic to silver nitrate or any other component of this product.
• The wart or verruca is located on the face, genitals, or anal region.
• You have diabetes or poor circulation, particularly affecting the feet or hands.
• You are applying the product to a mole, birthmark, or any pigmented or unusual skin lesion that has not been assessed by a doctor.
• The skin around the wart or verruca is broken, infected, inflamed, or irritated.
• You are applying the product to a child under six years of age without prior medical advice.
• You have been advised by your doctor not to use caustic or acidic wart treatments.

Interactions

Avoca Wart and Verruca Treatment Set is applied topically and is not known to cause significant systemic drug interactions when used as directed. However, the following points should be considered:

Storage

• Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
