    Description

    Alli Capsules 60mg – 84 Capsules

Alli 60mg capsules contain orlistat and are used to help adults who are overweight to lose weight when combined with a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet and increased physical activity. They are suitable for adults aged 18 and over with a BMI of 28 or above.

    How It Works

Orlistat works by blocking some of the fat-digesting enzymes (lipases) in your gut, which means that around one-third of the fat you eat cannot be absorbed and is instead passed out of the body in your stools. This helps to reduce your overall calorie intake from fat, supporting gradual, steady weight loss alongside a healthy diet and exercise. Studies have shown that Alli can help you lose approximately 50% more weight than dieting alone.

    Directions for Use

Take one 60mg capsule three times a day with each main meal that contains fat — either just before, during, or up to one hour after eating. If you miss a meal or eat a meal with no fat, you do not need to take a capsule. Do not exceed three capsules per day. Alli is not intended for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Orlistat 60mg per capsule

    Possible Side Effects

Side effects are mainly related to the digestive system and are more likely if you eat high-fat meals. Common side effects include:
    • Oily or fatty stools
    • Oily discharge or spotting from the back passage
    • Sudden or difficult-to-control urge to open your bowels
    • Increased frequency of bowel movements
    • Wind (flatulence), sometimes with an oily discharge
    • Stomach pain or discomfort
    • Soft or liquid stools
    • Headache

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    Do not take Alli if:
    • You are under 18 years of age
    • You have a BMI below 28
    • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
    • You have problems absorbing food (chronic malabsorption syndrome)
    • You have cholestasis (a liver or bile duct condition)
    • You are already taking another orlistat-containing product
    • You are allergic to orlistat or any of the other ingredients

    Interactions

Orlistat may reduce the absorption of some medicines and fat-soluble vitamins. Important interactions include:
    • Ciclosporin (an immunosuppressant) — reduced effectiveness; avoid combination
    • Warfarin and other anticoagulants — may alter the effect on blood clotting; monitoring required
    • Thyroid medicines such as levothyroxine — may reduce absorption
    • Antiepileptic medicines — may reduce seizure control
    • HIV medicines — may reduce their effectiveness
    • Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) — consider taking a multivitamin supplement at bedtime

Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Alli must not be used during pregnancy, as weight loss during pregnancy may harm the unborn baby. It should also not be used whilst breastfeeding, as it is not known whether orlistat passes into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between orlistat and alcohol. However, alcoholic drinks can be high in calories and may undermine your weight loss efforts, so it is advisable to keep alcohol intake to a minimum while using Alli as part of a calorie-controlled diet.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Alli is not known to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience any unexpected side effects that could impair your concentration or alertness, avoid driving or using machinery until the effects have passed.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep the capsules in their original packaging until use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
