How It Works
Chlorphenamine maleate works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms such as itching, sneezing, a runny nose, and watery eyes. By blocking histamine, Piriton helps to reduce and relieve these uncomfortable symptoms quickly.

Not recommended for children under 6 years of age without medical supervision. Tablets can be swallowed with water and may be taken with or without food. Interactions

It may also interact with MAOIs, anticholinergic medicines (such as some medicines for bladder problems or irritable bowel syndrome), and certain antifungal or antibiotic medicines. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Piriton is not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the last trimester, as it may have effects on the newborn baby. Chlorphenamine passes into breast milk and may cause drowsiness in a breastfed baby, so it is not recommended while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Piriton Allergy Tablets. Alcohol can significantly increase the drowsiness caused by chlorphenamine, which may impair your ability to carry out everyday tasks safely, including driving or operating machinery.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Piriton commonly causes drowsiness and may impair your concentration, reaction time, and ability to drive or operate machinery safely. You should not drive, cycle, or use tools or machinery if you feel drowsy or unsteady after taking this medicine. Older adults may be particularly affected.
