Pollenase 50mcg Hayfever Nasal Spray – 200 Sprays

Pollenase 50mcg Hayfever Nasal Spray contains beclometasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults and children aged 18 and over. It helps to reduce nasal inflammation, easing symptoms such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, and itching.

    How It Works

Beclometasone dipropionate belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It works by reducing inflammation in the lining of the nose, which helps to relieve the swelling, congestion, and irritation caused by allergic reactions to pollen and other allergens. The spray acts locally in the nose, meaning very little is absorbed into the rest of the body.

    Directions for Use

For adults aged 18 and over: the usual starting dose is two sprays into each nostril twice a day (morning and evening), or two sprays into each nostril four times a day. Once symptoms are controlled, the dose may be reduced to one spray in each nostril twice a day. The maximum dose is 400mcg (eight sprays) per day. This product is not recommended for children under 18 — consult a doctor for suitable alternatives. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Beclometasone dipropionate 50mcg per actuation (spray)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Dryness or irritation inside the nose
    • Unpleasant taste or smell
    • Sneezing immediately after using the spray
    • Nosebleeds
    • Headache

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 18 years of age
    • People who are allergic to beclometasone dipropionate or any of the other ingredients in this product
    • People with a nasal infection that has not been treated
    • People who have recently had surgery on their nose — consult a doctor first
    • People with tuberculosis (TB) of the nose or airways

    Interactions

Pollenase nasal spray is unlikely to interact with most common medicines when used as directed, as very little is absorbed into the bloodstream. However, medicines that inhibit the enzyme CYP3A4 — such as ritonavir or cobicistat (used to treat HIV) — may increase the amount of beclometasone absorbed by the body, which could lead to unwanted effects. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of beclometasone nasal spray during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is generally recommended to avoid use during the first trimester unless advised by a doctor. Very small amounts may pass into breast milk, but the risk to a breastfed infant is considered low when used at recommended doses. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between Pollenase nasal spray and alcohol. However, if you consume alcohol regularly or have any concerns, it is always advisable to check with your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Pollenase nasal spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Unlike some antihistamine hay fever treatments, beclometasone does not cause drowsiness.

    Storage

Store below 30°C, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep the cap on the bottle when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
