Strepsils Original lozenges are used to relieve sore throats, mouth infections, and minor throat irritations. They contain two antiseptic ingredients that help to kill the bacteria which can cause throat and mouth infections.

How It Works

When you suck a Strepsils Original lozenge, the active ingredients amylmetacresol and dichlorobenzyl alcohol are slowly released directly onto the affected area. These ingredients have antiseptic properties, meaning they work to kill bacteria in the throat and mouth, helping to reduce discomfort and soothe irritation.

Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 6 years and over: slowly dissolve one lozenge in the mouth every 2 to 3 hours, as needed. Do not take more than 12 lozenges in 24 hours. Strepsils Original lozenges should be sucked slowly and not chewed or swallowed whole. They are not recommended for children under 6 years of age. • Amylmetacresol: 0.6 mg per lozenge
• 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl alcohol: 1.2 mg per lozenge

Possible Side Effects

Strepsils Original lozenges are generally well tolerated, but side effects can occur in some people:
• Hypersensitivity reactions (such as skin rash, itching, or swelling)
• Mouth or throat irritation
• Nausea
• Allergic reactions in people sensitive to any of the ingredients

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

• People who are allergic to amylmetacresol, 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, or any other ingredient in the lozenge
• Children under 6 years of age
• People with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency (as the lozenges contain sucrose)
• Anyone who has been told by their doctor to avoid certain sugars

Interactions

Strepsils Original lozenges are not known to interact significantly with other medicines when used as directed. However, as with all medicines, caution is advised if you are taking other treatments for throat or mouth conditions. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

There is limited data on the use of Strepsils Original lozenges during pregnancy or breastfeeding. As a precaution, it is advisable to use them only when considered necessary and for the shortest time possible. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Alcohol

There are no known interactions between Strepsils Original lozenges and alcohol. However, alcohol may further irritate an already sore or inflamed throat, so it is sensible to avoid or limit alcohol consumption whilst experiencing throat discomfort.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Strepsils Original lozenges are not known to cause drowsiness or impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. They are considered safe to use before undertaking these activities when taken as directed.

Storage

Store Strepsils Original lozenges below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
