Description
Solpadeine Plus – 24 Capsules
Solpadeine Plus Capsules are a combination pain relief medicine used to treat mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, migraine, dental pain, period pain, and muscle aches. They are suitable for adults and children aged 16 and over.
⸻
How It Works
Solpadeine Plus contains three active ingredients that work together to relieve pain more effectively than paracetamol alone. Paracetamol blocks pain signals in the brain and reduces fever, codeine phosphate is a mild opioid that boosts pain relief, and caffeine has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of both paracetamol and codeine. This combination provides stronger relief for moderate pain that has not responded to paracetamol on its own.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 16 and over: take 1–2 capsules up to 4 times a day, leaving at least 4 hours between doses. Do not take more than 8 capsules in any 24-hour period. Swallow the capsules whole with a glass of water. Do not use for more than 3 days without speaking to a doctor. This medicine is not suitable for children under 16 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Paracetamol 500 mg per capsule
• Codeine phosphate hemihydrate 8 mg per capsule
• Caffeine 30 mg per capsule
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Drowsiness or dizziness
• Constipation
• Nausea or vomiting
• Headache (particularly with prolonged use)
• Skin rash or itching
• Dependence with prolonged use (even at recommended doses)
• Difficulty breathing (rare — seek immediate help)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 16 years of age
• People who are allergic to paracetamol, codeine, caffeine, or any other ingredient in the capsules
• People with liver or kidney disease
• People who have a condition where the gut does not work normally (paralytic ileus)
• People who are known to metabolise codeine very rapidly (ultra-rapid CYP2D6 metabolisers)
• Breastfeeding mothers
• People with breathing difficulties or respiratory depression
• People who regularly use alcohol in large amounts
⸻
Interactions
Solpadeine Plus may interact with other medicines, including other paracetamol-containing products (risk of overdose), medicines for epilepsy (such as carbamazepine), blood-thinning medicines (such as warfarin), other opioid painkillers, sleeping tablets, antidepressants (particularly MAOIs), and antiepileptic drugs. Caffeine may also interact with other stimulant medicines. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Solpadeine Plus is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, as codeine may cause breathing problems in the newborn. Codeine passes into breast milk and can cause potentially life-threatening breathing problems in breastfed babies; breastfeeding mothers should not use this medicine. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Solpadeine Plus. Alcohol can increase the sedative effects of codeine, heightening drowsiness and the risk of side effects. Drinking alcohol regularly or in large amounts alongside paracetamol can also increase the risk of liver damage.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Solpadeine Plus contains codeine, which can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired concentration. You should not drive, operate heavy machinery, or perform tasks requiring full alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. These effects may be made worse by alcohol or other sedative medicines.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
