    Description

    Senokot Max Strength Tablets 12 Years Plus Ltd) – 48tablet 4 X – 12tablets

Senokot Max Strength Tablets contain senna, a natural stimulant laxative used to relieve occasional constipation in adults and children aged 12 years and over. They help to restore normal bowel function when dietary measures alone have not been sufficient.

    How It Works

Senna works by stimulating the muscles in the walls of the bowel, encouraging them to contract and move stools through more quickly. It is absorbed in the gut and converted into its active form, which acts directly on the lining of the large bowel to produce a bowel movement, usually within 8 to 12 hours of taking the tablets.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take 2 tablets at bedtime. Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not use for more than 7 days without speaking to a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Senna (as sennoside B) 15 mg per tablet

    Possible Side Effects

    • Abdominal cramps or discomfort
    • Diarrhoea
    • Nausea
    • Discolouration of the urine (may turn yellow-brown or reddish — this is harmless)
    • Skin reactions such as rash or itching (uncommon)
    • Electrolyte imbalance with prolonged use

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 12 years of age
    • People with a blockage of the bowel (intestinal obstruction)
    • People with severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting of unknown cause
    • People with inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
    • People who are allergic to senna or any other ingredient in the tablets
    • People with appendicitis or symptoms suggestive of it

    Interactions

Senna may reduce the absorption of some medicines if taken at the same time; it is advisable to take other medicines at a different time of day. Prolonged use or overuse may lead to low potassium levels, which can increase the effects of certain heart medicines such as digoxin and some anti-arrhythmic drugs. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Senna is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, as stimulant laxatives may cause uterine contractions. Small amounts of senna may pass into breast milk, and it is therefore not recommended during breastfeeding without medical advice. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known significant interaction between senna and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation, so it is advisable to keep alcohol intake moderate and maintain good fluid intake whilst treating constipation.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Senokot Max Strength Tablets are not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience abdominal discomfort that is distracting, use your own judgement before driving or operating machinery.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
