Description
Rennie Peppermint Indigestion & Heartburn Relief – 72 Tablets
Rennie Peppermint tablets are an antacid medicine used to relieve the symptoms of indigestion, heartburn, flatulence, trapped wind, and bloating. They are suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over.
⸻
How It Works
Rennie Peppermint tablets contain two antacid ingredients — calcium carbonate and heavy magnesium carbonate — that work quickly to neutralise excess stomach acid. By raising the pH of the stomach contents, they help relieve the burning discomfort associated with heartburn and indigestion. The pleasant peppermint flavour also makes them easy and comfortable to take.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 and over: chew or suck 2 tablets as needed, up to 3 times daily. Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours. Tablets should be taken between meals or at bedtime when symptoms occur. Do not take for longer than 2 weeks without seeking medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Calcium carbonate 680 mg per tablet
• Heavy magnesium carbonate 80 mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Rennie Peppermint tablets are generally well tolerated, but side effects can occasionally occur:
• Constipation (associated with calcium carbonate)
• Diarrhoea (associated with magnesium carbonate)
• Nausea or stomach discomfort
• Rebound acid production with prolonged use
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 12 years of age
• People with hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels in the blood)
• People with severe kidney disease or kidney failure
• Those with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
• People on a calcium-restricted diet unless advised by a doctor
• Those with hypophosphataemia (low phosphate levels) unless directed by a doctor
⸻
Interactions
Antacids such as Rennie can affect the absorption of certain other medicines if taken at the same time. They may reduce the effectiveness of medicines including tetracycline antibiotics, iron supplements, bisphosphonates (e.g. alendronic acid), and some antifungal medicines (e.g. ketoconazole). It is generally recommended to take Rennie at least 2 hours apart from other medicines. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Rennie Peppermint tablets are generally considered acceptable for occasional, short-term use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as the active ingredients are not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream. However, regular or prolonged use during pregnancy should be avoided without medical supervision. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known direct interaction between Rennie Peppermint tablets and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining and worsen symptoms of indigestion and heartburn, so it is advisable to limit alcohol consumption if you are suffering from these symptoms.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Rennie Peppermint tablets do not cause drowsiness and are not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can take this medicine and continue with your normal daily activities as usual.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
