Description
Piriton Allergy Syrup – 150ml
Piriton Allergy Syrup is a fast-acting antihistamine liquid used to relieve the symptoms of hayfever, allergic skin reactions, and other allergic conditions. It is suitable for adults and children aged 1 year and over.
⸻
How It Works
Piriton contains chlorphenamine maleate, an antihistamine that works by blocking the effects of histamine — a chemical your body releases when it comes into contact with an allergen. By blocking histamine, it helps to relieve itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and skin irritation such as rashes and hives.
⸻
Directions for Use
Piriton Allergy Syrup should be taken by mouth using the measuring device provided. Recommended doses are as follows:
• Adults and children aged 12 and over: 10ml (4mg) up to 4 times a day
• Children aged 6–12 years: 5ml (2mg) up to 4 times a day
• Children aged 1–5 years: 2.5ml (1mg) up to 4 times a day
Do not exceed the stated dose and leave at least 4–6 hours between doses. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

• People currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who have taken them within the last 14 days
• People with certain conditions such as glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or urinary retention — unless advised by a doctor
• People with severe liver disease
⸻
Interactions
Piriton may interact with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including sleeping tablets, anti-anxiety medicines, and some antidepressants. It should not be taken alongside MAOIs or other antihistamines. Chlorphenamine may also interact with certain medicines used for irregular heartbeat or depression. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of chlorphenamine during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and could cause drowsiness in infants. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Piriton Allergy Syrup. Alcohol can significantly increase the sedative effects of chlorphenamine, making drowsiness and dizziness worse and increasing the risk of accidents.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Piriton Allergy Syrup can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, which may affect your ability to drive or use machinery safely. You should not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. This sedative effect may be more pronounced in children and elderly people.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not refrigerate. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
