Description
Oilatum Cream – 150g
Oilatum Cream is an emollient moisturiser used to soothe and hydrate dry, itchy, and sensitive skin. It is commonly used to help manage conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis.
⸻
How It Works
Oilatum Cream contains two emollient ingredients — liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin — that work by forming a protective, water-retaining layer on the surface of the skin. This barrier helps to lock in moisture, reduce water loss, and soften dry or flaky skin, keeping it supple and comfortable.
⸻
Directions for Use
Oilatum Cream is suitable for adults, children, and babies. Apply the cream directly to the affected areas of skin as often as needed, or as directed by your doctor. Smooth gently into the skin in the direction of hair growth. It can be used as a soap substitute by applying to wet or dry skin and rinsing off. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Liquid paraffin (light) 6% w/w
• White soft paraffin 15% w/w
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Oilatum Cream is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience:
• Skin irritation or redness at the site of application
• A burning or stinging sensation on application
• Skin rash or allergic reaction
• Folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles) — particularly if applied too thickly
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• People who are allergic to liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, or any other ingredient in the cream
• Do not use on infected skin unless advised by a doctor
• Avoid contact with the eyes
• Do not use in or around the nostrils of premature babies or newborns without medical supervision
⸻
Interactions
Oilatum Cream is applied to the skin and is not known to interact significantly with other medicines. However, emollient products can make surfaces slippery (including baths and showers), so take care to avoid falls. Emollients can also increase the flammability of fabrics — keep away from fire or open flames while using this product and immediately after application. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Oilatum Cream is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it is applied topically to the skin and is not significantly absorbed into the body. If using on the breast area whilst breastfeeding, ensure the skin is clean before feeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Oilatum Cream and alcohol. This product is applied to the skin and is not taken by mouth, so alcohol consumption does not affect its use.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Oilatum Cream does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It is applied topically to the skin and has no known effects on alertness or concentration.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
