Description
Nytol Liquid Caramel Flavour 10mg/5ml Oral Solution – 300ml
Nytol Liquid Caramel Flavour is a sleep aid designed for adults who are experiencing temporary difficulty sleeping (insomnia). It contains the antihistamine diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which helps you fall asleep more easily on occasions when you have trouble getting to sleep.
⸻
How It Works
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that causes drowsiness as a side effect of blocking histamine receptors in the brain. By reducing brain activity associated with wakefulness, it helps you feel sleepy and fall asleep more quickly. It is intended for short-term use only and is not suitable for long-term management of sleep problems.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and young people aged 16 and over should take 20ml (containing 40mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride) in a single dose, 20 minutes before going to bed. Use the measuring cup provided to measure the correct dose. Do not take more than one dose in 24 hours, and do not use for more than two consecutive weeks without speaking to a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Interactions
Nytol Liquid may interact with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, sedatives, anxiety medicines, and other antihistamines. It may also interact with medicines used to treat Parkinson’s disease (such as anticholinergics), and some medicines used for stomach problems. Taking diphenhydramine with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) is particularly dangerous and must be avoided. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Nytol Liquid is not recommended during pregnancy as diphenhydramine may have effects on the developing baby, particularly near the time of delivery. Diphenhydramine can pass into breast milk and may cause sedation in a breastfed infant, so it should not be used while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You must not drink alcohol while taking Nytol Liquid. Alcohol significantly increases the sedative effect of diphenhydramine, which can lead to excessive drowsiness and may impair your breathing and reflexes. Avoid alcohol completely on any day you take this medicine.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Nytol Liquid causes drowsiness, and this effect may continue into the following morning. Do not drive, cycle, or operate machinery after taking this medicine, and ensure you allow sufficient time to sleep before needing to be alert. If you feel drowsy or dizzy the next day, you must not drive or operate heavy machinery.
