Description
Night Nurse Capsules – 10 Pack
Night Nurse Capsules are a combination cold and flu remedy specially formulated for night-time use, helping to relieve symptoms such as blocked nose, sore throat, fever, aches, and troublesome coughs so you can get a restful night’s sleep.
⸻
How It Works
Night Nurse Capsules contain three active ingredients that work together to tackle multiple cold and flu symptoms at once. Paracetamol reduces fever and relieves pain such as headaches and sore throats. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide suppresses the urge to cough, while promethazine hydrochloride is an antihistamine that helps to dry up a runny nose and has a calming, sedative effect to help you sleep through the night.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and young people aged 16 and over should take 2 capsules at bedtime. Night Nurse Capsules are not suitable for children under 16 years of age. Do not take more than 2 capsules in any 24-hour period, and do not take this medicine for more than 5 consecutive days without seeking medical advice. Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
Each capsule contains:
• Paracetamol 500 mg
• Promethazine hydrochloride 10 mg
• Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5 mg
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Drowsiness or sedation (this is expected but may persist into the next morning)
• Dizziness or impaired coordination
• Dry mouth, nose, or throat
• Blurred vision
• Difficulty passing urine
• Nausea or an upset stomach
• Skin rashes or sensitivity to sunlight (with promethazine)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 16 years of age
• Anyone allergic to paracetamol, promethazine, dextromethorphan, or any other ingredient in the capsules
• People taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who have taken them within the last 14 days
• People with severe liver or kidney disease
• People with epilepsy or a history of seizures
• People with glaucoma (raised pressure in the eye)
• People with an enlarged prostate or difficulty urinating
• People currently taking other medicines containing paracetamol
⸻
Interactions
Night Nurse Capsules can interact with a number of medicines, including other products containing paracetamol (risk of overdose), sedatives, sleeping tablets, antidepressants (particularly MAOIs and tricyclics), anti-anxiety medicines, antipsychotics, and certain antibiotics such as metronidazole. Taking this medicine alongside other sedating medicines or alcohol can significantly increase drowsiness. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Night Nurse Capsules are not recommended during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding due to the promethazine and dextromethorphan content, which may not be safe for an unborn baby or nursing infant. Although paracetamol alone is generally considered safe during pregnancy when used as directed, this combination product should be avoided. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
You should not drink alcohol whilst taking Night Nurse Capsules. Alcohol increases the sedative effect of promethazine, leading to excessive drowsiness, and it can also increase the risk of liver damage when combined with paracetamol. Avoid alcohol completely for the duration of your treatment.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Night Nurse Capsules cause significant drowsiness and are intended to be taken only at bedtime. You must not drive, operate heavy machinery, or carry out any activity requiring alertness after taking this medicine. The sedative effects may still be present the following morning — do not drive or operate machinery until you are fully alert and the effects have worn off completely.
⸻
Storage
Store Night Nurse Capsules below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
