    Description

Movicol Powder Lemon & Lime – 20 Sachets

Movicol Powder Lemon & Lime is a laxative medicine used to treat constipation and faecal impaction (a build-up of hardened stools) in adults and children over 12 years. Each sachet is dissolved in water to create a pleasant-tasting lemon and lime drink that helps restore normal bowel movements.

    How It Works

Movicol contains macrogol 3350, a type of osmotic laxative that works by drawing water into the bowel from the surrounding tissues. This softens and bulks up the stool, making it easier to pass. Importantly, Movicol does this without causing your body to lose water or essential salts (electrolytes), reducing the risk of dehydration.

    Directions for Use

For constipation in adults and children over 12 years, the usual dose is 1 to 3 sachets per day, dissolved in 125 ml of water per sachet. Doses should be spread throughout the day and the solution should be consumed within 6 hours of preparation. For faecal impaction, up to 8 sachets per day may be taken, all dissolved together in 1 litre of water — refer to the patient information leaflet for full details on this regimen. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

“If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.”

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People with a known allergy to macrogol or any other ingredient in Movicol
    • People with a bowel obstruction or perforation
    • People with a condition causing abnormal bowel wall function (e.g. paralytic ileus)
    • People with severe inflammatory bowel conditions such as toxic megacolon or Crohn’s disease (unless directed by a doctor)
    • Children under 12 years (this formulation is not suitable — a specific paediatric product should be used)

    Interactions

Movicol is not known to interact significantly with most medicines. However, because it increases the movement of water through the gut, it may theoretically affect the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time — it is advisable to take other oral medicines at a different time if possible. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Movicol is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as macrogol is not significantly absorbed into the body. However, as with all medicines, it is important to seek professional advice before use. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There are no known interactions between Movicol and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation. It is advisable to drink plenty of water and limit alcohol intake whilst being treated for constipation.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Movicol does not cause drowsiness and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You can continue normal activities whilst taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store Movicol sachets below 25°C in a dry place. Once a sachet has been dissolved in water, the solution should be used within 6 hours and kept in the refrigerator if not consumed immediately. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
