Fybogel Mebeverine Orange Flavour – 10 Sachets
Fybogel Mebeverine Orange Flavour is a combination medicine used to relieve the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), including abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, and irregular bowel movements. It contains two active ingredients that work together to tackle both the discomfort and the digestive irregularity associated with IBS.
⸻
How It Works
Ispaghula husk is a natural plant fibre that absorbs water in the gut, softening stools and helping to regulate bowel movements — relieving both constipation and loose stools. Mebeverine hydrochloride is an antispasmodic that works directly on the muscles of the bowel wall, relaxing painful spasms and cramps without affecting normal gut movement.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults aged 18 years and over should take one sachet dissolved in a full glass of water (approximately 150 ml) twice daily — ideally 20 to 30 minutes before breakfast and the evening meal. Stir the powder briskly into the water and drink straight away. It is important to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day whilst taking this medicine. This product is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Ispaghula husk: 3.5 g per sachet
• Mebeverine hydrochloride: 135 mg per sachet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Flatulence (wind) or bloating, particularly in the first few days of use
• Abdominal discomfort or distension
• Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or hives (rare)
• Difficulty swallowing or throat irritation if not taken with enough water
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 18 years of age
• People with difficulty swallowing or a history of oesophageal narrowing
• People with sudden changes in bowel habits lasting more than two weeks without seeing a doctor
• Those with bowel obstruction or paralytic ileus
• Anyone with phenylketonuria (this product contains aspartame)
• People with known hypersensitivity to ispaghula husk, mebeverine, or any other ingredient in the product
• Those who are unable to take adequate amounts of fluid
⸻
Interactions
Ispaghula husk may reduce the absorption of certain medicines if taken at the same time; it is advisable to take other oral medicines at least 30 to 60 minutes before or after taking Fybogel Mebeverine. Mebeverine hydrochloride has few known significant drug interactions at therapeutic doses. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited clinical data on the use of mebeverine during pregnancy. Ispaghula husk is generally considered low risk, but the combination product should be used with caution. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known significant interaction between Fybogel Mebeverine and alcohol. However, alcohol can irritate the gut and may worsen IBS symptoms, so it is advisable to drink in moderation whilst managing IBS.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Fybogel Mebeverine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Neither ispaghula husk nor mebeverine hydrochloride is known to cause drowsiness or impair concentration at the recommended doses.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
