    Description

    Dioctyl 100mg Capsules – 30 Pack

Dioctyl 100mg Capsules contain docusate sodium, a stool softener used to relieve constipation and to make bowel movements more comfortable. They are also suitable for people who experience constipation associated with haemorrhoids (piles).

    How It Works

Docusate sodium works by allowing water and fats to penetrate the stool, making it softer and easier to pass. It acts as a surface-active agent, reducing the surface tension of the stool so that water from the bowel can be absorbed into it more effectively. This gentle action helps to relieve constipation without causing cramping.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take one to two capsules (100–200mg) up to three times daily. The capsules should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Results are usually seen within 1–3 days of starting treatment. Dioctyl capsules are not recommended for children under 12 years of age unless directed by a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Interactions

Docusate sodium may increase the absorption of certain other medicines when taken at the same time, including liquid paraffin and some other laxatives. It is advisable not to take this medicine within two hours of other medicines to avoid potential interactions. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of docusate sodium during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is not recommended for use in the first trimester. Small amounts may pass into breast milk, so caution is advised during breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known direct interaction between docusate sodium and alcohol. However, alcohol can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation, so it is advisable to drink plenty of water and limit alcohol intake while being treated for constipation.
