    CosmoCol Lemon & Lime – 30 Sachets

CosmoCol Lemon & Lime is a laxative used to relieve constipation. Each sachet contains a combination of electrolytes and macrogol 3350 that work to soften stools and restore regular bowel movements.

    How It Works

CosmoCol contains macrogol 3350, a type of osmotic laxative. It works by drawing water into the bowel, softening hard stools and making them easier to pass. The added electrolytes (sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium chloride) help to maintain a healthy balance of salts in the body during treatment.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: dissolve 1 to 3 sachets in water per day, as needed. Each sachet should be dissolved in approximately 125 ml (half a glass) of water and drunk straight away. The usual starting dose is 1 to 2 sachets daily, taken as a single dose or in divided doses. Treatment should not normally continue for more than 2 weeks without medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Each sachet contains:
    • Macrogol 3350 — 13.125 g
    • Sodium chloride — 350.7 mg
    • Sodium bicarbonate — 178.5 mg
    • Potassium chloride — 46.6 mg

    Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, CosmoCol can cause side effects in some people. Common side effects may include:
    • Bloating or wind
    • Stomach cramps or discomfort
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhoea (especially if the dose is too high)
    • Vomiting
    • Allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching (uncommon)

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

Do not take CosmoCol if you:
    • Are allergic to macrogol 3350 or any other ingredients in this product
    • Have a bowel obstruction or suspected bowel obstruction
    • Have a perforated bowel or risk of bowel perforation
    • Have been told you have a paralytic ileus (the bowel has stopped working)
    • Have severe inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon
    • Are under 12 years of age (unless directed by a doctor)

    Interactions

CosmoCol may reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time, as it increases water content in the bowel. If you take other oral medicines, it is advisable to take them at a different time to CosmoCol. There are no known significant interactions with food or alcohol. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

CosmoCol is not significantly absorbed into the body, which means it is generally considered suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, as with all medicines, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between CosmoCol and alcohol. However, staying well hydrated with water while taking this medicine is important, and excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to dehydration, which may worsen constipation.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

CosmoCol is not known to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. You should be able to drive as normal whilst taking this medicine.

    Storage

Store CosmoCol below 25°C in a dry place. Once a sachet has been dissolved in water, the solution should be used immediately and not stored. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
