Description
Clotrimazole Cream 1% – 50g (Brand May Vary)
Clotrimazole Cream 1% is an antifungal cream used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm (tinea corporis), fungal nappy rash, and candidal skin infections including those affecting the groin, armpits, and skin folds.
⸻
How It Works
Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azole antifungals. It works by disrupting the outer membrane (cell wall) of the fungus, causing the contents to leak out and killing the fungus. This stops the infection from spreading and helps to clear up the symptoms of redness, itching, and irritation.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 and over: Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and the skin immediately surrounding it, 2–3 times a day. Gently rub the cream in. Continue using the cream for 2–4 weeks, even if the symptoms improve, to ensure the infection has fully cleared. For athlete’s foot, it is especially important to continue treatment for at least 4 weeks. This cream is for external use on the skin only — do not use inside the vagina or mouth. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

⸻
Interactions
Clotrimazole cream is applied to the skin and is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream, so interactions with other medicines are unlikely. However, if you are using latex contraceptives (condoms or diaphragms) in the genital area, the cream may weaken the latex and reduce their effectiveness — use an alternative method of contraception during treatment in these circumstances. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Clotrimazole cream is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when applied to the skin. However, during the first trimester of pregnancy in particular, it is advisable to use it only when necessary and under medical guidance. If applying to the breast area, ensure the cream is thoroughly washed off before breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between clotrimazole cream and alcohol. Drinking alcohol does not affect how this cream works, as it is applied topically to the skin and is not significantly absorbed into the bloodstream.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Clotrimazole cream is applied to the skin and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. No special precautions are required in this regard.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze the cream. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
