Description
Clarinaze Allergy Control Nasal Spray 0.05% – 140 Sprays
Clarinaze Allergy Control Nasal Spray contains mometasone furoate 0.05% and is used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 18 and over (as a P medicine). It helps with symptoms such as sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, and nasal itching.
⸻
How It Works
Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid (steroid) that works by reducing inflammation inside the nose. When sprayed directly into the nostrils, it calms down the allergic response in the nasal lining, helping to relieve congestion, sneezing, and a runny or itchy nose. It is most effective when used regularly, as the full benefit can take a few days to develop.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults aged 18 and over: Use 2 sprays into each nostril once daily (total of 4 sprays per day). Once symptoms are well controlled, the dose may be reduced to 1 spray in each nostril once daily. Do not use for more than 3 months without speaking to a doctor. This product is not recommended for those under 18 years of age when purchased as a pharmacy medicine. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Mometasone furoate 50 micrograms per actuation (spray)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Nosebleeds or blood-streaked mucus
• Nasal irritation, burning, or stinging
• Sore throat
• Headache
• Rarely, nasal ulceration or perforation of the nasal septum with prolonged use
• Very rarely, immediate allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children and adolescents under 18 years of age (when used as a P medicine)
• Anyone with a known allergy to mometasone furoate or any other ingredient in the spray
• People with untreated nasal or sinus infections (bacterial, fungal, or viral)
• Those who have had recent nasal surgery or nasal injury (until healed)
• Anyone with tuberculosis (TB) of the respiratory tract
⸻
Interactions
Mometasone furoate nasal spray has low systemic absorption, so interactions with other medicines are uncommon. However, some medicines that inhibit certain liver enzymes (such as ketoconazole or ritonavir) may increase the amount of mometasone in the body, potentially increasing the risk of steroid side effects. Caution is also advised if you are using other corticosteroid-containing products. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the use of mometasone furoate nasal spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although nasal administration results in very low systemic absorption, caution is still advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Clarinaze Allergy Control Nasal Spray and alcohol. This medicine is applied directly into the nose and has very low absorption into the bloodstream, so alcohol is not expected to affect how the medicine works.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Clarinaze Allergy Control Nasal Spray is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Unlike some antihistamine-based allergy treatments, mometasone furoate does not cause drowsiness. If you do experience any unexpected dizziness or visual disturbance, avoid driving until symptoms have resolved.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C. Keep the bottle upright when not in use. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
