    Description

Cetirizine Allergy and Hayfever Relief 1mg/ml Oral Solution – 200ml

Cetirizine Allergy and Hayfever Relief Oral Solution contains cetirizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of hay fever, hives (urticaria), allergic reactions to insect bites and stings, and other allergy-related conditions. It is available as an easy-to-measure liquid, making it especially suitable for children aged 6 years and over and for adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

    How It Works

Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms such as itching, sneezing, a runny nose, and watery eyes. By blocking histamine, cetirizine helps to reduce and relieve these uncomfortable symptoms. It is considered a non-drowsy antihistamine, although some people may still feel mildly sleepy.

    Directions for Use

Use the measuring device provided to give the correct dose. Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take 10ml (10mg) once daily. Children aged 6 to 11 years should take 5ml (5mg) twice daily, or 10ml (10mg) once daily. Children aged 2 to 5 years should take 2.5ml (2.5mg) twice daily — however, children under 6 years should only use this product on the advice of a doctor. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    Possible Side Effects

    • Drowsiness or tiredness
    • Headache
    • Dry mouth
    • Dizziness
    • Nausea or stomach discomfort
    • Agitation or restlessness (more commonly reported in children)
    • Skin rash or itching (uncommon)

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to cetirizine hydrochloride, hydroxyzine, or any of the other ingredients
    • Children under 2 years of age
    • People with severe kidney (renal) impairment unless advised by a doctor
    • Those who have had a previous allergic reaction to any antihistamine medicine
    • People with rare hereditary conditions such as galactose intolerance (check the leaflet for excipient information)

    Interactions

Cetirizine is not known to interact with many medicines, but caution should be taken when combined with medicines that cause sedation, such as sleeping tablets, anxiety medicines, or strong painkillers, as drowsiness may be increased. Theophylline (used for breathing conditions) may slightly reduce how quickly cetirizine is cleared from the body. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The safety of cetirizine during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is generally not recommended unless considered essential by a doctor. Cetirizine passes into breast milk and should be avoided during breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking cetirizine. Alcohol can increase the risk of drowsiness and dizziness associated with cetirizine, which may affect your ability to carry out everyday tasks safely.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Although cetirizine is classed as a non-drowsy antihistamine, some people may still experience drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. If you feel drowsy after taking it, do not drive or perform tasks that require full alertness.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Once opened, use the solution within the period stated on the packaging or patient information leaflet. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
