    Description

Canesten Thrush Internal Cream – 5g

Canesten Thrush Internal Cream is an antifungal treatment used to relieve the internal symptoms of vaginal thrush, such as itching, soreness, and discharge. It contains clotrimazole, a clinically proven antifungal ingredient, and is applied internally using a pre-filled applicator.

    How It Works

Clotrimazole works by attacking the cell membrane of the Candida fungus responsible for thrush, causing it to break down and die. This stops the infection from spreading and allows your body to clear the symptoms, usually within a few days of treatment.

    Directions for Use

For women aged 16 to 60 years: use the pre-filled applicator to insert the full 5g of cream as deep as comfortably possible into the vagina, preferably at bedtime. This is a single-dose treatment. Do not use this product in girls under 16 or women over 60 without first consulting a doctor. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Clotrimazole 100mg per 5g dose (2% w/w)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Local burning or stinging sensation after application
    • Itching or redness in the vaginal area
    • Vaginal irritation or discomfort
    • Skin rash or peeling around the application area
    • Rarely, an allergic reaction causing swelling or severe irritation

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Girls under 16 years of age or women over 60 years of age (without medical advice)
    • Anyone who has had more than two episodes of thrush in the last six months
    • Those with a known allergy to clotrimazole or any other ingredient in this product
    • Anyone with irregular vaginal bleeding, blood-stained discharge, or ulcers
    • Those with a sexually transmitted infection (STI)
    • Anyone experiencing pelvic pain or dysuria (painful urination)

    Interactions

Clotrimazole cream may damage latex condoms and diaphragms, making them less effective as contraception or protection against sexually transmitted infections — avoid using these for at least five days after treatment. There are no significant interactions with oral medicines when clotrimazole is used internally, but you should still inform your healthcare provider of all treatments you are using. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Canesten Thrush Internal Cream can be used during pregnancy, but the applicator should not be used — the cream should be inserted carefully by hand instead. As with all medicines during pregnancy, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Canesten Thrush Internal Cream when used as directed. This medicine is applied locally and is not taken by mouth, so alcohol consumption is not expected to affect how the treatment works.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Canesten Thrush Internal Cream does not cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It is applied internally and has no known effect on alertness or coordination.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not refrigerate. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
