Description
Diarrhoea Relief – 6 Capsules
Diarrhoea Relief capsules contain loperamide 2mg, an effective treatment for short-term episodes of diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 and over. They can also be used to relieve diarrhoea associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, loperamide, works by slowing down the movement of the bowel. This allows more time for water and salts to be absorbed from the gut, resulting in firmer, less frequent stools and relief from diarrhoea symptoms.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 and over: Take 2 capsules (4mg) at the start of treatment, followed by 1 capsule (2mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 8 capsules (16mg) in 24 hours. Swallow the capsules whole with water. For IBS-related diarrhoea, the maximum dose is 4 capsules (8mg) in 24 hours. Do not use for more than 48 hours without seeking medical advice. This medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 12 years of age
• People who are allergic to loperamide or any other ingredient in this product
• People with a fever alongside diarrhoea (which may indicate a bacterial infection)
• People whose stools contain blood or mucus
• People with acute ulcerative colitis or other inflammatory bowel conditions
• People who have been told not to take medicines that slow the bowel (e.g. after certain bowel surgeries)
• People with liver problems — seek medical advice before use
⸻
Interactions
Loperamide may interact with certain medicines, including those used to treat HIV (such as ritonavir), some antibiotics (such as quinidine), and other medicines that slow gut movement. Some medicines may increase the levels of loperamide in the blood, potentially raising the risk of side effects. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The use of loperamide is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester, as its safety has not been fully established. Loperamide may pass into breast milk in small amounts, so it is not recommended whilst breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no direct interaction between loperamide and alcohol; however, alcohol can irritate the gut and may worsen diarrhoea symptoms. It is advisable to avoid alcohol whilst experiencing diarrhoea to support recovery and stay properly hydrated.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Loperamide may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you experience these effects, do not drive or operate heavy machinery. Most people are not affected, but you should be aware of how this medicine affects you before driving.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
