Description
Allevia Fexofenadine 120mg – 15 Tablets
Allevia Fexofenadine 120mg Tablets are a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults and children aged 12 and over. They help to ease sneezing, a runny, itchy or blocked nose, and red, itchy, watery eyes caused by pollen and other airborne allergens.
⸻
How It Works
Fexofenadine works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is the chemical your immune system releases when it detects an allergen such as pollen, and it is responsible for causing the itching, sneezing, and watering associated with hay fever. By blocking histamine’s effects, fexofenadine helps to reduce these symptoms without causing the drowsiness often associated with older antihistamines.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 12 years and over should take one 120mg tablet once daily, swallowed whole with water. It is best taken on an empty stomach, as food — particularly fruit juices — can reduce how well the medicine is absorbed. Do not exceed the stated dose. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Fexofenadine hydrochloride 120mg per tablet
⸻
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, fexofenadine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common or reported side effects include:
• Headache
• Drowsiness (less common than older antihistamines, but possible)
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Feeling tired or fatigued
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
Do not take Allevia Fexofenadine 120mg tablets if:
• You are allergic to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in this product
• You are under 12 years of age
• You have severe kidney problems (unless advised by a doctor)
• You are taking certain antacids containing aluminium or magnesium hydroxide (these should not be taken at the same time as fexofenadine)
⸻
Interactions
Fexofenadine may interact with certain medicines and foods. Fruit juices such as grapefruit, orange, and apple juice can reduce the absorption of fexofenadine — it is recommended to take this medicine with water rather than fruit juice. Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium hydroxide (e.g. some indigestion remedies) can also reduce how well fexofenadine is absorbed if taken at the same time. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of fexofenadine during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding unless a doctor has assessed the benefits and risks. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
Fexofenadine is considered a non-drowsy antihistamine; however, drinking alcohol alongside any antihistamine may increase the risk of drowsiness or dizziness. It is advisable to avoid or limit alcohol consumption whilst taking this medicine.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Allevia Fexofenadine is classed as a non-drowsy antihistamine and is generally considered less likely to impair driving ability than older antihistamines. However, in a small number of people it may still cause drowsiness or dizziness. You should assess how this medicine affects you personally before driving or operating machinery.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tablets in their original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
