What is fluoxetine?
Fluoxetine is an SSRI antidepressant used for depression, anxiety and OCD. It usually takes a few weeks to build up its full effect.
Brands and strengths
Fluoxetine is the name of the active ingredient. In the UK it is sold as generic fluoxetine and under brand names including Prozac, Olena and Oxactin — all contain the same active ingredient and work the same way. Common strengths:

How to take fluoxetine
Usually taken once a day in the morning, with or without food. Allow several weeks for the full effect and do not stop suddenly without advice. Always follow your prescriber’s instructions (BNF).
Side effects
