Chlorphenamine Hayfever & Allergy Relief Tablets – 28 Tablets

Chlorphenamine Hayfever & Allergy Relief Tablets contain 4mg of chlorphenamine maleate, a fast-acting antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of hay fever, allergies, hives, insect bites and stings, and food allergies. Each pack contains 28 tablets, providing convenient and effective relief from common allergic reactions.

    How It Works

Chlorphenamine is a first-generation antihistamine that works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical released during an allergic reaction that causes symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and a runny nose. By blocking histamine’s effects, chlorphenamine helps to reduce and relieve these uncomfortable symptoms.

    Directions for Use

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: take one tablet (4mg) every 4–6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 6 tablets (24mg) in 24 hours. Children aged 6–11 years: half a tablet (2mg) every 4–6 hours, up to a maximum of 3 tablets (12mg) in 24 hours. Chlorphenamine is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    • Dizziness or headache
    • Dry mouth, nose, or throat
    • Blurred vision

    • Nausea or stomach upset
    • Restlessness or excitability (more common in children)

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • Children under 6 years of age
    • People who are allergic to chlorphenamine or any other ingredient in the tablet
    • People with a rare hereditary condition such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption (if the product contains lactose — refer to the patient information leaflet)
    • People taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who have taken them within the last 14 days
    • People with acute asthma attacks or severe respiratory disease
    • People with angle-closure glaucoma
    • People with urinary retention or an enlarged prostate

    Interactions

Chlorphenamine may interact with other medicines that cause drowsiness, including sleeping tablets, anxiety medicines, antidepressants, and some pain relievers. It can also interact with MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants, and anticholinergic medicines (such as those used for bladder or stomach problems), potentially increasing side effects. Phenytoin (an anti-epileptic medicine) levels in the blood may also be affected. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Chlorphenamine is not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy, as it may affect newborns. There is limited safety data for use in early pregnancy, and the medicine may pass into breast milk, potentially causing sedation in a breastfed baby. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

You should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking chlorphenamine. Alcohol can significantly increase the sedative (drowsiness-causing) effect of this medicine, making you feel much more sleepy or impaired than usual. This can be dangerous, particularly if you need to drive or operate machinery.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Chlorphenamine is a sedating antihistamine and can cause significant drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision. You should not drive, cycle, or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. If you feel drowsy or unwell after taking this medicine, do not drive or use machinery.

    Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
