Description
Deep Heat Rub – 67g
Deep Heat Rub is a topical cream used to relieve muscular aches, pains, strains, and joint discomfort. It is applied directly to the skin to provide soothing warmth and targeted, temporary pain relief without the need to swallow tablets.
⸻
How It Works
Deep Heat Rub contains two active ingredients — menthol and methyl salicylate — which work together as a counter-irritant. When rubbed into the skin, they create a warming sensation that helps to distract the body from deeper pain signals, while also improving blood flow to the affected area to ease muscle and joint discomfort.
⸻
Directions for Use
For adults and children aged 12 and over, apply a small amount of cream to the affected area and gently massage in until absorbed. Repeat up to 3–4 times daily as needed. Wash hands thoroughly after application and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and broken or inflamed skin. Do not use under tight bandages or dressings. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Menthol 5.91% w/w
• Methyl salicylate 12.8% w/w
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Skin redness or irritation at the site of application
• A burning or stinging sensation on the skin
• Skin rash or allergic reaction (e.g., itching, hives)
• Blistering of the skin if left on for too long or used under occlusive dressings
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 12 years of age
• Anyone with broken, damaged, or inflamed skin in the area to be treated
• Anyone with a known allergy to menthol, methyl salicylate, aspirin, or any other salicylates
• Anyone with a known allergy to any other ingredient in the cream
• Do not apply to the face, eyes, or mucous membranes
⸻
Interactions
Deep Heat Rub is applied topically and is not generally known to cause significant interactions with other medicines when used as directed. However, methyl salicylate is related to aspirin, so caution is advised if you are taking anticoagulant medicines such as warfarin, as there is a theoretical risk of increased absorption through the skin. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Deep Heat Rub contains methyl salicylate, a salicylate compound, which is not recommended during pregnancy — particularly in the third trimester — due to potential risks to the unborn baby. Its use during breastfeeding is also not recommended without medical guidance, as active ingredients may be absorbed through the skin. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known interaction between Deep Heat Rub and alcohol, as this product is applied directly to the skin rather than taken orally. No specific precautions regarding alcohol are required for this topical cream.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Deep Heat Rub is a topical product and is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. It does not cause drowsiness or impair concentration when used as directed.
⸻
Storage
Store Deep Heat Rub below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
