Description
What is Dapoxetine?
Dapoxetine is the generic version of Priligy®, a clinically proven treatment for premature ejaculation (PE) in men aged 18–64. It is a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) specifically designed for on-demand use before sexual activity.
Dapoxetine is the only licensed oral treatment for premature ejaculation in the UK. Clinical trials have shown it can increase the time to ejaculation by 2–3 times, helping you to:
- Improve control over ejaculation
- Reduce personal distress related to PE
- Increase satisfaction with sexual intercourse
Generic dapoxetine contains the same active ingredient as branded Priligy® but at a lower cost.
How to take it
Take one tablet with a full glass of water, 1–3 hours before anticipated sexual activity. Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours. Can be taken with or without food, but avoid alcohol as it increases the risk of dizziness and fainting.
Starting dose: 30mg is the recommended starting dose. If 30mg does not give sufficient improvement and side effects are tolerable, your prescriber may increase the dose to 60mg.

Potential side effects
Nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, excessive sweating. Serious (rare): fainting (syncope), seizures, severe mood changes, serotonin syndrome.
Important: Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how dapoxetine affects you. If you feel faint, dizzy, or lightheaded, lie down immediately and seek medical advice.
Interactions & precautions
Do not take with antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, MAOIs), triptans, lithium, tramadol, St John’s Wort, or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin). Do not take at the same time as ED medications (sildenafil, tadalafil) — allow a 24-hour gap. Avoid alcohol.
