Description
Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray Honey & Lemon – 15ml
Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray Honey & Lemon is a fast-acting throat spray designed to relieve the pain and discomfort of a sore throat. It contains benzocaine, a local anaesthetic, and comes in a pleasant honey and lemon flavour.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient, benzocaine, is a local anaesthetic that works by temporarily numbing the nerve endings in the throat. This helps to reduce the pain and soreness caused by conditions such as a sore throat or mouth ulcers, providing fast, targeted relief directly at the source.
⸻
Directions for Use
Adults and children aged 6 years and over: Direct the nozzle to the back of the throat and press the pump firmly to release one spray. Use up to 3 sprays per dose, and repeat every 2–3 hours as needed. Do not use more than 6 times in 24 hours. This spray is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Benzocaine 0.71 mg per spray (equivalent to 71 mg per 10 ml)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Localised hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, itching, or redness in the throat or mouth
• Swelling of the mouth or throat (rare but seek immediate medical help if this occurs)
• Methaemoglobinaemia (a rare blood disorder — seek urgent medical attention if you notice bluish skin, lips, or nails, or have difficulty breathing)
• Numbness or tingling beyond the treated area
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 6 years of age
• Anyone with a known allergy to benzocaine or other local anaesthetics of the ester type
• Anyone with a known allergy to any other ingredient in the spray
• People with a rare inherited condition called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency or other conditions that increase the risk of methaemoglobinaemia
⸻
Interactions
Benzocaine is not known to interact significantly with most common medicines when used as directed as a topical throat spray. However, caution is advised in patients taking medicines known to cause methaemoglobinaemia, such as certain antibiotics (e.g., dapsone) or nitrates. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the use of benzocaine throat spray during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While absorption from topical use is expected to be minimal, caution is advised. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
⸻
Alcohol
There is no known clinically significant interaction between Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray and alcohol. However, as alcohol may further irritate a sore throat, it is generally advisable to avoid alcohol while your symptoms persist.
⸻
Driving and Operating Machinery
Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray is applied locally to the throat and is not expected to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unusual effects after use, exercise caution.
⸻
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
