Description
Chloraseptic Children’s Sore Throat Spray Blackcurrant – 15ml
Chloraseptic Children’s Sore Throat Spray Blackcurrant is a locally acting throat spray designed to provide fast, temporary relief from sore throat pain in children. It contains benzocaine, a local anaesthetic, and comes in a child-friendly blackcurrant flavour.
⸻
How It Works
The active ingredient benzocaine is a local anaesthetic that works by temporarily numbing the nerve endings in the throat. This helps to reduce the pain and discomfort associated with a sore throat quickly and directly at the site of irritation.
⸻
Directions for Use
This spray is intended for children aged 6 years and over. Spray directly to the back of the throat as directed on the packaging. Do not use more often than recommended, and do not exceed the stated dose. This product is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.
⸻
Active Ingredients
• Benzocaine 1.4 mg per spray (approximately 0.71% w/v)
⸻
Possible Side Effects
• Local irritation or stinging in the throat
• Rash or skin reactions
• Allergic reactions (including swelling, itching, or difficulty breathing in rare cases)
• Methemoglobinaemia (a rare but serious blood disorder — seek immediate medical attention if lips or skin appear blue or grey)
If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.
⸻
Who Should Not Take This Medicine
• Children under 6 years of age
• Anyone with a known allergy to benzocaine or other local anaesthetics (particularly ester-type anaesthetics)
• Anyone with a known allergy to any other ingredient in the product
• Those with a history of methemoglobinaemia
• Do not use if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing
⸻
Interactions
Benzocaine is not widely known to interact with most common medicines when used as directed at low doses in the throat. However, caution is advised in those taking medicines that can increase the risk of methemoglobinaemia, such as certain antibiotics (e.g., dapsone) or nitrates. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.
⸻
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
This product is intended for children and is not designed for use in adults, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
