    Description

    Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel – 50g

Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel is a topical anti-inflammatory gel used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in muscles and joints. It is suitable for conditions such as muscle strains, sprains, back pain, and joint pain associated with osteoarthritis.

    How It Works

Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel contains diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). When rubbed into the skin, it penetrates through to the painful area underneath, where it works by blocking the production of chemicals called prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. Because it is applied directly to the skin, it targets the affected area and provides up to 12 hours of relief.

    Directions for Use

Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel is for use in adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over. Gently apply a small amount of gel (2–4 g, roughly the size of a large cherry) to the painful area and rub in gently two to three times a day. Wash your hands after applying the gel and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin. Do not use for more than 14 days without seeking medical advice. Always read the patient information leaflet before use. If you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Active Ingredients

    • Diclofenac diethylammonium 20 mg/g (equivalent to diclofenac sodium 15.8 mg/g)

    Possible Side Effects

    • Skin reactions at the application site, such as redness, itching, or rash
    • Dry or flaking skin where the gel is applied
    • A burning or tingling sensation on the skin
    • Contact dermatitis (skin inflammation)
    • In rare cases, an allergic reaction causing swelling, breathing difficulties, or severe skin reactions

If you experience any serious side effects, stop taking this medicine and seek medical advice immediately.

Who Should Not Take This Medicine

    • People who are allergic to diclofenac, aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other NSAID
    • People who have previously had an asthma attack, hives, or allergic reaction after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
    • Children under 14 years of age
    • People with open wounds, broken skin, or skin infections at the site of application
    • Those in the last three months (third trimester) of pregnancy
    • People with a known hypersensitivity to any of the excipients in the product

    Interactions

Because Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel is applied to the skin rather than taken orally, interactions with other medicines are less likely than with oral NSAIDs. However, caution is advised if you are already taking oral NSAIDs, anticoagulants (blood thinners such as warfarin), or other topical skin products applied to the same area. Tell your PillSorted pharmacist or doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including herbal remedies and supplements.

    Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy as it may cause harm to the unborn baby or complications during labour. Use during the first and second trimesters should be avoided unless clearly necessary and only under medical supervision. It is not recommended during breastfeeding as small amounts of diclofenac may pass into breast milk. Speak to your doctor or PillSorted pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

    Alcohol

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel when used as directed on the skin. However, if you are also taking oral NSAIDs or other medicines alongside this gel, alcohol may increase the risk of side effects. If you are unsure, speak to your PillSorted pharmacist.

    Driving and Operating Machinery

Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel is applied topically to the skin and is not expected to cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unusual symptoms after use, exercise caution and seek advice if needed.

    Storage

Store Voltarol 12 Hour Emulgel below 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
